If networking is not part of your strategy, please reconsider. Here’s 7 top tips for successful networking by Rick Armstrong.
1. What’s Your Reason? Don’t network for the sake of networking. What is your goal for your networking? For example, you might be in it to find new business, key people who can help you step up the career ladder or to keep up with the latest developments in your industry. Whatever your goal, know what it is and make sure your networking takes you there.
2. Be Patient. Build your network in good time. Don’t rush out to network to fulfill a sudden need. You will be so focused on that urgent need that you won’t be building relationships. People can sense the difference between someone out to use them for a short-term fix and someone who is looking for a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship. So, build your network in advance, so that it will already be there in time of need. Continue Reading »

It was only 7.30am on the 7th of March 2009 at the J W Marriot and the room was buzzing with the top networkers in India. It was the morning of the 2nd BNI National conference in India, a morning that was eagerly awaited by seasoned members (who had seen the phenomenal growth of BNI India) and also by the new ones who would be witnessing a BNI conference for the first time. From “The Go Giver” Book by Bob Burg & John David Mann
This has to be one of the BEST books I have read about how GIVERS really succeed in Life and Business. I think this is a MUST read for all BNI Members. This is completely in sync with the GIVERS GAIN philosophy of BNI. I would say that this is an applied guide to GIVERS GAIN.
It’s small and easy to read book written in a story format much like “Who moved my cheese” or “The One minute Manager” . These are some of the key points from the book.
5 Laws of Stratospheric Success
1.The Law of Value
Your true value I determined by how much MORE you give in value than you take in payment.
The key is that our product/ service must serve people - it must add value. Exceed people’s expectations and they will pay you even more. The point isn’t to have them pay you more, it’s to give them more. You give, give, give. Why? Because you love to. It’s not a strategy. It’s a way of life! Continue Reading »

With the extraordinary set of events unfolding across the world, I’m sure it has put a dampener on the festive season. What are business people to do in these tough times? I thought I’d share some tips and strategies that have helped me in tough times. One of my businesses was in the commodities market trading in beans and rice in Kenya. Read my 10 top tips here Continue Reading »
